GTS Trustee Called as Dean of the American Cathedral in Paris

AThe Rev. Lucinda R. Lairdfter a worldwide search, The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, known as the American Cathedral in Paris, has called the Rev. Lucinda R. Laird, a graduate and Trustee of The General Theological Seminary (GTS), to serve as its tenth Dean and Rector. Ms. Laird earned her Master of Divinity from GTS in 1982, is a past president of the seminary’s Alumni/ae Association, and has been a Trustee of the seminary since 2008.

Currently serving as Rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky, Laird will begin her new ministry this spring. Until then, the Rt. Rev. Peter James Lee, retired bishop of Virginia, will continue to serve the Cathedral as Interim Dean and Rector. Bp. Lee fulfilled a similar role at GTS from August 2010 to January 2012, serving as Interim Dean following the retirement of Dean Ward Ewing.

General Seminary has other ties to the American Cathedral in Paris. In the summer of 2011, the Rev. Joseph P. Mathews, then an M.Div. student, completed a summer internship there. Now a priest, Mathews is currently serving the Diocese of California as Working Group Head for Communications.  This past summer, current M.Div. senior Alexander Martin also ministered at the American Cathedral as a summer intern.
