This Wednesday, October 30, the Guild of Precentors will offer sung Compline, in a candle-lit Chapel of the Good Shepherd, beginning at 8:45pm. Joining the seminary community for Compline will be young adults in the New York Intern Program. The Officiant will be Ben Hines, an M.Div. student. You are cordially invited to participate in the liturgy, chanting and praying, and offering warm greetings to the young adults.
This service is part of a new student-led Compline service to be prayed Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8:45pm. Continuing on Mondays, at 9:45pm after Schola rehearsal, will be sung Compline led by the Guild of Precentors.
The New York Intern Program, part of the Episcopal Service Corps, is an opportunity for young adults to spend a year in New York City, living in intentional community, working in various social service and justice settings, pursuing formation as leaders, and discerning their future vocations. This academic year, 17 young adults are interns in one of three communities: at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Harlem; The Church of the Intercession, Harlem; and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Staten Island.
Throughout the year, the young adults receive lots of support, including from General Seminary students are who serving as their spiritual directors. Additionally, the Seminary is hosting a gathering of all of the interns for a Theology Book Club on three Wednesday evenings in this Michaelmas term to conclude with sung Compline.
This is a lovely opportunity both to pray Compline and to interact with young adults in the Episcopal Service Corps. Please do come!
