Students, faculty, staff, as well as teachers and students of the Children’s Garden Preschool, gathered following the morning Eucharist on May 5 to bless the Seminary’s Community Garden. The blessings and prayers included in this brief service were written by Prof. Joshua Davis’s class, “Earth, Work, City: Christian Action & Social Ethics,” which explores theological and moral decision-making in relation to land use, labor, and urban living. Following the blessing of the garden, the hands of all those present were anointed with holy oil using the words, “God has entrusted creation to you.”
Work began on the garden in April and will continue through the Summer. All members of the Seminary community are encouraged to contribute to its planning and upkeep, and to add vegetable matter to the new composter, which was purchased by the Community Council at the end of the 2012-13 school year.
