The Rev. William “Will” P. Peyton, Class of 2006, has been called as the 10th Rector of St. Paul’s Memorial Church in Charlottesville, Virginia, effective February 22, 2017.
Peyton is currently Associate Rector at St. James’ Church, New York City. He received his bachelor’s degree in History and American Studies from the University of Virginia before earning his M.Div. from The General Theological Seminary. Peyton was then sponsored for Ordination by St. Paul’s Memorial. Before leaving Charlottesville for St. James’ Church, he was Associate Rector at St. Paul’s Church in Ivy, Virginia from 2006 to 2010.
Peyton’s experience includes serving as Director of St. George’s Camp, a Shrine Mont camp, and working as a stonemason and vegetable farmer. He is married and has a daughter and two sons.
In his introductory letter to parishioners, Peyton said “I am looking forward to exploring with you all the ways that we can encourage each other, as well as our Christian and non-Christian neighbors, to see God at work in our lives, at St. Paul’s and in the world, proclaiming good news to the poor, welcome to the stranger and release to the captive in the name of Christ, no matter the political or cultural weather.”
