
During the Gala Dinner of the UBE Annual Business Meeting and Conference on Wednesday, July 26, in Cherry Hill, NJ, the Union of Black Episcopalians awarded the Rev. Dr. Michael Battle the Bishop Quintin Ebenezer Primo Award for Extraordinary Faithfulness in Pastoral and Prophetic Leadership in Ministry.
Canon Annette L. Buchanan, the National President of the Union of Black Episcopalians bore witness to Professor Battle’s keen intellect and pastoral heart that so endears him to students, staff, and his fellow faculty members here at Chelsea Square:
“In this award we celebrate your deep engagement in reconciliation, advocacy, the work of Ubuntu and your relationship with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. We have all been well served by your writing and prophetic witness as recognized by your installation as the “Six Preacher” by Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. As theologian, educator, pastor and priest we celebrate you.”
The Rev. Dr. Michael Battle is Herbert Thompson Professor of Church and Society and Director of the Desmond Tutu Center at The General Theological Seminary. He is also the President and CEO of the PeaceBattle Institute.
