Photo Gallery – Annual Garden Party

On June 20, the Chelsea Square Conservancy at The General Thological Seminary held its annual Garden Party. Over 125 friends, alumni, and neighbors joined the GTS community to enjoy the Close as sunlight broke out from a mostly cloudy day.

Beyond the Close: Travel “El Camino” next Summer

The faithful began hiking to Santiago in at least the twelfth century, enacting their belief that St. James had been the first to bring Christianity to Spain. The Rev. Craig Townsend, from St. James’ Church on the UES is leading a group of pilgrims on a 70-mile hike to Santiago de Compostela this summer. There are several ancient routes; the one they’ll take is known as the Camino Portugues, or Portuguese Road, as it begins in Lisbon and leads northward.  Read more...

Retreat Registration Open to All Until Wednesday, September 9

All members of our community are welcome to observe Quiet Days at Holy Cross monastery in West Park, NY, beginning this Friday at 5 PM (Vespers, followed by dinner) and concluding Sunday after the Eucharist and lunch.  Any person who wishes to arrive late or leave early is able to do so.  This retreat is free, minus the cost of transportation to/from the monastery.

Holy Cross monastery is located on the banks of the Hudson River, and is home to several Benedictine brothers as well as the Companions of Mary the Apostle, a new Episcopal order of sisters dedicated to developing women’s spiritual leadership.    Read more...

Amy Coultas ’06 Called to Serve as Canon to the Ordinary in Kentucky

The Very Rev. Amy R. Coultas (M.Div. 2006) has been called by the Rt. Rev. Terry A. White, Bishop of the Diocese of Kentucky, to serve as Canon to the Ordinary. Coultas is currently Interim Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville, Kentucky, and has previously served as Canon Missioner, Chair of the Deputation to General Convention, Vicar to St. James’ Episcopal Church in Shelbyville, member of the Commission on Ministry, and as Chaplain to the Diocesan Youth Summer Camp.  Read more...
