Schrader’s Recent Study on Mary of Bethany in HTR

The most recent edition of Harvard Theological Review features an innovative study by General Seminary’s Scholar-in-Residence, Elizabeth Schrader.

This study examines the text transmission of the figure of Martha of Bethany throughout the Fourth Gospel in over one hundred of our oldest extant Greek and Vetus Latina witnesses. The starting point for this study is instability around Martha in our most ancient witness of John 11–12, Papyrus 66.  Read more...

Jee Hei Park Joins General Seminary Faculty

General Seminary welcomes Jee Hei Park as the  Affiliate Professor in New Testament for the 2017-2018 academic year. Jee Hei Park is currently a Doctor of Philosophy candidate in the Christianity in Antiquity program at Fordham University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Philosophy from Yonsei University in Seoul, and her Master in Divinity from Harvard Divinity School. She was a Forum for Theological Exploration (FTE) Doctoral Fellow for 2016-2017.  Read more...

General Seminary Receives ATS Accreditation for New Master of Arts in Ministry

 

NEW YORK CITY – The General Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that it has received accreditation from The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) for the Seminary’s new Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.M.). The M.A. in Ministry degree offers a tailored approach to theological education and formation through several flexible pathways and a variety of specializations. In case you were wondering…

The Guild of Chimers of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd is responsible for playing the Seminary’s historic chimes. The tower contains a set of 15 tubular chimes, manufactured in 1922 by the Walter H. Durfee Company of Providence, Rhode Island. The chimes are rung mechanically each morning and evening, where they are heard throughout the neighborhood of Chelsea, calling the Seminary community together for our corporate worship.  Read more...

Upcoming Guest Preacher – The Rev. Canon Allison DeFoor

Allison DeFoor is an Episcopal priest, and serves as Canon to the Ordinary to the Bishop of the Diocese of Florida, seated in Jacksonville. Previously he served as a priest serving parishes in four prisons around Tallahassee, and as assisting priest at Grace Mission, an inner city mission there. He has a long background in criminal justice, including service as a prosecutor, public defender, judge and was the elected Sheriff of Monroe County.  Read more...

General Seminary’s website is getting a major face lift!

Since before his arrival, Dean DeLashmutt has been working with the creative team at Percepti.co to develop the structure of a new site. We are at the stage in development where we need to acquire photo and video content.

To help with this, throughout next week a small team of photographers and videographers will join us on the Close to film interviews with faculty, staff and students and capture pictures throughout the campus (classrooms, chapel, library, refectory, etc.).  Read more...
