Katherine Shaner Receives Society of Biblical Literature Award

Katherine Shaner, Assistant Professor of New Testament, has received a 2011 Regional Scholar Award from the Society of Biblical Literature. Each year, three young scholars are chosen from across the nation based on regional presentations of their work. Prof. Shaner was chosen for her presentation Enslaved Religious Leadership in Ephesos: Status in the Artemis Cult and the Ekklesia. Shaner and the other recipients were given a dinner in their honor at the Society’s annual meeting, the largest gathering of Biblical scholars worldwide, held November 19-22, 2011, in San Francisco.  Read more...

New Testament Professor Appointed at General Seminary

New York City – The Executive Committee of the Trustees of The General Theological Seminary (GTS) on June 22, 2011 unanimously approved the appointment of the Rev. Katherine A. Shaner as Assistant Professor of New Testament. Ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), Prof. Shaner is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Theology degree at Harvard Divinity School where her scholarly specialization is in the field of New Testament and Early Christian History.  Read more...
