General Seminary Holds Community Discussion about “The Way of Wisdom”

DSC_0258 and others copyOn April 1, during the weekly Community Time, students, faculty and staff of The General Theological Seminary gathered to discuss “The Way of Wisdom,” and to hear the hopes of current students. After an introduction from Dean Kurt Dunkle, the floor was opened to faculty members who spoke about the changes that are happening at General Seminary.

Every faculty member contributed to the discussion and spoke about his or her perspective, and then the floor was opened to student feedback. The questions and concerns of the students were probing and insightful. Dean Dunkle and Academic Dean Deirdre Good responded to the questions and noted the eagerness for more details, which will be addressed as the specifics of the initiative are developed.

Some aspects of The Way of Wisdom as outlined by the Dean and Faculty are already taking place, in particular the way GTS is erasing the lines between disciplines, and more will be rolled out in the coming months. Other aspects, such as The Wisdom Year, will be introduced in the Fall of 2015. Continuing students will have the option to take part in The Wisdom Year or to finish their studies under the current plan. With The Wisdom Year, during the third year at General Seminary, the dynamic between classroom experience and real-world experience will change.
