The Rev. Adam J. Shoemaker, Class of 2007, has been called to serve as Rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
He has most recently served as rector of Holy Comforter in Burlington, N.C. since 2011. He also helped organize mission trips to North Carolina’s sister diocese of Costa Rica. In the Diocese of North Carolina he served as a member of the Commission on Ministry and Commission on Constitution and Canons.
Shoemaker previously served as assistant rector at Christ Church in Andover, Mass. A native New Yorker, he received his bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 2001, his M.Div from Harvard Divinity School in 2005, and his Diploma in Anglican Studies from General Theological Seminary in 2007. He served as a missionary in Brazil from 2005-2006. He is currently studying at Duke Divinity School to earn a Doctorate in Ministry.
A “cradle” Episcopalian, baptized at the Church of the Holy Apostles, just down the street from General, he is married to the Reverend Courtney Davis Shoemaker, Class of 2008, whom he met and wed at General; they have three children ages 4, 2, and 2 months.
