Prospective Student Conference, Feb.16-17

The Prospective Student Conference will be held from Sunday, February 16, at 3:30pm  thru Monday February 17 at 6:00 pm.

This is a two-day opportunity for prospective students to see for themselves what The General Theological Seminary and the City of New York have to offer. Great Opportunity to Spend Three Weeks in Panama This Summer

The Panama Project offers four Episcopal seminary students the opportunity to spend three weeks in the Episcopal Diocese of Panama. An outstanding feature of the program is orientation to and engagement with the social, economic and political dimensions of life in Panama, including the country’s complex relationship with the USA. Tutoring Volunteers Needed for 2nd to 5th Graders at Fulton Houses

Tommie Watkins asks for your volunteering expertise in working with the youth at Fulton Houses. They are in need of reading and mathematics tutors for 2nd to 5th graders (6 to 12 year old). Reading volunteers will mainly listen to the children read and complete simple grammar sentences and math tutors will assist with basic arithmetic. New online blog series exploring the relationship between the Church and mental health

Forward Movement is calling for submissions to an online blog series exploring the relationship between the Church and contemporary approaches to mental health.  There is no editorial agenda beyond bringing conversations around this relationship into the open.  Any topic that could fall under this heading is appropriate for consideration (examples of topics already submitted include the extent to which Augustinian approaches to personhood and the will are affected by recent research into depression and the relationship between Anglican thoughts on salvation and autism).  Read more...

Disaster Preparedness Kit

The Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for the diocese surrounding our seminary, New York, is our own alum, the Rev. Stephen Harding.  He has prepared a list of items each person in our residential community should have to prepare for any natural disaster.  In the event of a natural disaster, this is an important part of the overall plan of preparedness. Beyond the Close: Admin position available at NAES

The National Association of Episcopal Schools, an independently incorporated, non-profit, voluntary membership organization, supports and serves the vital work and ministry of those who serve Episcopal preschools and schools, school start-up committees, and regional and diocesan Episcopal school associations throughout the Episcopal Church. It does so in order to enhance their work with over 450 member schools and their leaders. As part of its mission and ministry, NAES interprets, represents, and advocates for Episcopal schools in the education communities and the wider Church.  Read more...

The Panama Project – An experience in cross cultural learning

We have received information about a wonderful summer project.  The Panama Project is scheduled for June 28th through July 19th and four students from Episcopal seminaries around the U.S. will be selected to participate.
This is a longstanding special program offered through the accredited seminaries of The Episcopal Church. Students often use SCOM grants to partially cover costs. The Panama Project has a modest endowment, but the program has been vastly underfunded for a number of years.  Read more...

How has your seminary experience shown you where the church needs to be? EES awards Evangelism for the 21st Century grants to Episcopalians in seminary communities: students, faculty, staff and their spouses/partners, for innovative ministry projects.  Grants are $500 – $5,000 and are intended to help define, encourage and support the emerging forms of lay and ordained ministries that the new century demands.
