Dear General Seminary Community:

We are writing to you as the Honorary Degree Committee of the General Seminary Board of Trustees.

We are delighted to ask for your assistance in identifying distinguished candidates for the General Theological Seminary degree of Doctor of Divinity honoris causa.  

We welcome recommendations that reflect the vast and diverse experience of the Church. Recipients of this honor have historically come from a large range of gifted individuals, including those who have made outstanding contributions in these realms:

  • Christian mission,
  • theological discourse and scholarship,
  • significant leadership in the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion, as well as leadership in ecumenical mission,
  • as distinguished lay persons of diverse ministries,
  • as leaders in parish ministry (lay and ordained), and
  • as leaders in public, ethical and policy realms.

New Development in Matthews & Watkins’ EES Grant

Check out the new website where you can view and download for free the newly released Workbook and Reader’s Guide. Collaborating with Rev. Dr. Tommie Watkins Jr., we will be offering a 7-week online course with the Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) as part of their CALL (Center for Anglican Learning and Leadership) continuing education program in winter 2018 and a one-day training workshop at the Beeckan Center of the School of Theology at the University of the South (Sewanee) in April 2018.  Read more...

General Seminary Stands in Support of ERD Hurricane Relief Fund

In response to C. Andrew Doyle, Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Texas, who reached out to us about Hurricane Harvey relief, the General Seminary campus created a campaign to raise money for Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) and specifically, their Hurricane Relief Fund. While the impetus for the fundraiser was Hurricane Harvey, we are grateful that the money we raised will go to the same programs that support Hurricane Irma and most recently Hurricane Maria.    Read more...

Positions: 2

Day: Sunday

Hours: 9:45 am -1:45 pm (4 hours)

Responsibilities include:

Sunday operation of Children’s Church in 2 segments; 10 am to 10:50 am and 11:45 am to 1:15 pm.

Operation will include Interactive Bible Lessons, hands on projects and games.  Possible Children’s Choir.

Hours include set up prior to and clean up after segments.

Qualifications:

College courses include Childhood Education

Schrader’s Recent Study on Mary of Bethany in HTR

The most recent edition of Harvard Theological Review features an innovative study by General Seminary’s Scholar-in-Residence, Elizabeth Schrader.

This study examines the text transmission of the figure of Martha of Bethany throughout the Fourth Gospel in over one hundred of our oldest extant Greek and Vetus Latina witnesses. The starting point for this study is instability around Martha in our most ancient witness of John 11–12, Papyrus 66.  Read more...

During the Gala Dinner of the UBE Annual Business Meeting and Conference on Wednesday, July 26, in Cherry Hill, NJ, the Union of Black Episcopalians awarded the Rev. Jee Hei Park Joins General Seminary Faculty

General Seminary welcomes Jee Hei Park as the  Affiliate Professor in New Testament for the 2017-2018 academic year. Jee Hei Park is currently a Doctor of Philosophy candidate in the Christianity in Antiquity program at Fordham University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Philosophy from Yonsei University in Seoul, and her Master in Divinity from Harvard Divinity School. She was a Forum for Theological Exploration (FTE) Doctoral Fellow for 2016-2017.  Read more...

General Seminary Receives ATS Accreditation for New Master of Arts in Ministry

 

NEW YORK CITY – The General Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that it has received accreditation from The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) for the Seminary’s new Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.M.). The M.A. in Ministry degree offers a tailored approach to theological education and formation through several flexible pathways and a variety of specializations.
